You’ve decided to hit send on your professional website! But now the big question is: what platform shall it be created on? It's easy to feel overwhelmed by all the platforms and options out there. Should you use Squarespace? Wix? WordPress? Hire a developer? Or DIY it? Isn’t there an AI-build option to create the dream site with a few clicks??

All these platforms have their own pros and cons - what is the best fit for your site design needs will ultimately depend on a variety of factors, most of which include your goals for your site, and your desired level of involvement in managing it.

Today let’s talk about Webflow: my top choice of no-code platform to build custom websites with ease, and minimal coding experience. In this blog, I’ll break down what Webflow is, how it compares to other popular platforms, and expand on why Webflow is my chosen tool to bring my client’s digital hearths to life.

What is Webflow?

Simply put, Webflow is a no-code website-building platform that allows designers to create completely custom websites—without needing to write complicated code from scratch. Unlike templated platforms where you’re stuck squeezing your business into a one-size-fits-all layout, or fully custom-coded sites that require an experienced developer to create, Webflow allows one to easily and efficiently build around you—your brand, your style, your content.

Unparalled Creative Control

Webflow unlocks unmatched customization of each element on your site, and opens up the door for creation of a wide range of animations. With the addition of some custom code, the sky is really the limit on what one can create with Webflow.

Simple Tools for Ongoing Content Management

Webflow provides the creative freedom to build something totally unique, while containing multiple features that make it easy for you to manage your site after it’s launched. When your site is live, you’ll be able to make simple updates—like editing text or swapping photos—with just a few clicks. There’s also the user-friendly CMS (content management system) that makes organizing and posting blog content a breeze.

Why I Use Webflow for Custom Client Websites

At the end of the day, Webflow allows me to create custom websites that are beautiful, functional, and easy for my clients to update their content independently.

How Does Webflow Compare to Other Platforms?

You’re probably familiar with some of these competitor platforms. These tools are popular for good reason—most of them offer quick ways to get a site up and running. But they also come with trade-offs that can limit your growth over time.

Squarespace: Limited Custom Design

Squarespace is often praised for its sleek templates and ease of use. It’s great for simple, small websites where you don’t need much customization. But if you’ve ever tried to  really make a Squarespace site your own—move things around, tweak layouts, or break out of the template—you’ve probably run into a wall. It’s kind of like rearranging furniture in a room where the walls won’t budge. You can only go so far without having to rely heavily on custom code.

I have looked into offering Squarespace builds, largely because the platform is familiar to many, especially business in the health and wellness space. And if you’re on a low-budget project where you’re good to pop your content into a pre-designed template and call it a day, go for it!

However, as a designer and no-code developer, it’s become clear that Squarespace is  not the platform I’ll utilize for fully custom site builds.

Why? Well to be honest, it's a total pain in the ass to fully customize a Squarespace site. Often what requires custom code in Squarespace can be achieved in seconds with the native Webflow designer. If I was going to learn to write code, I probably wouldn’t be investing in attracting Squarespace projects.

WordPress: Powerful but Often Over-complicated

WordPress, on the other hand, is incredibly flexible—but that flexibility often comes at a cost. Many WordPress sites rely heavily on plugins, which can slow down your site, create security risks, and require constant updates. And unless you’re comfortable working with code or hiring a developer, making changes can feel confusing or overwhelming.

There are a number of third-party plug-ins that facilitate one’s ability to update aspects of their wordpress site in a no-code fashion. But all these have their own pros and cons, and from what I’ve read, none come close to unlocking the customization inherently available in Webflow. Unless your business calls for custom membership systems, complex user interactions, or highly specialized business workflows, WordPress is unnecessary in today’s tech sphere.

Where Webflow Stands Out

Webflow offers a refreshing alternative since it allows for:

  • A visually driven experience with complete customization.

  • User-friendly CMS and Editor for client-driven content updates.

  • Scalability without the need for heavy back-end programming or keeping a developer on retainer

With Webflow, I can design your site exactly how you envision it—no fighting against templates or patching together third-party tools. The end result is a site that’s fast, secure, beautifully branded, and completely tailored to your needs. And the best part? You’ll still have the power to update your content without needing to touch a single line of code.

In short: Webflow gives you the freedom to grow your site and your business—without needing to keep a developer on speed dial.

Why I Choose to Build with Webflow

I choose to build in Webflow because it offers unparalleled creative control, allowing me to actualize my client’s vision for their site in a way that uniquely represents their work and values.

Outside of writing code from scratch, I just haven’t found another platform that compares. And with ease of production, I can offer competitive prices for custom site builds, while continuing to scale up my development skills to take on more complex projects.

Webflow gives you more: more creative flexibility, more independent content control, and more confidence in managing your site after it’s launched. Here's how a Webflow site can support your digital hearth needs:

Custom Design, Without the Compromises

Webflow lets me design your site from a totally blank canvas, so that we’re not limited by pre-made templates. Every layout, every interaction, and every detail can be crafted around you—your voice, your audience, and your business goals.

This means you get a site that’s not only beautiful, but one that actually works the way you need it to. Whether you're a therapist, coach, artist, or wellness practitioner, we can build a site that reflects your unique energy and invites the right people in.

User-Friendly CMS for Blogs and Portfolios

Have a blog? Showcase your work in a portfolio? Easily update or add events announcements? Webflow’s built-in CMS (content management system) makes managing this kind of content refreshingly simple.

If you can fill out a form, you can use the Webflow CMS. It’s that easy. This means you can keep your site fresh and active without needing to call in help for every update. Training on CMS use is included in any site build I do that includes a CMS package.

Effortless Updates with Editor Mode

Need to update your copy to bring it closer to your authentic message? For text and image updates, Webflow’s Editor Mode is a dream. Editor mode allows you to click directly on the page and make your change, then hit publish—no digging through html or calling in your developer for simple text and image updates. Many of my clients are surprised (and relieved!) by how easy it feels.

I love that Webflow’s Editor Mode unlocks the ability for my clients to independently stay in control of their content. Not only does this save you money by reducing the need for developer help, but it also empowers you to continue to hone in the vibe and voice of your website, so that your site can grow with you as you continue to develop your craft.

Hosting That’s Fast, Secure, and Stress-Free

Webflow takes care of hosting, which means your site lives on fast, secure servers—no third-party hosting plan needed. Pages load quickly, uptime is incredibly reliable, and security is built in. You also won’t have to worry about constant updates, plugin conflicts, or surprise outages.

Everything just works—and when your website is part of how you earn trust and attract clients, that peace of mind really matters.

Easy Collaboration with Ongoing Support

Webflow makes it easy to keep me (or any designer) in the loop, even after your site is launched. With free developer seats, I can hop into your project to help with tweaks, updates, or new features—without needing your login or messing with admin settings.

This is a huge plus in maintaining followup support for my clients. And if you ever want to do a more-involved site refresh or implement a full rebrand, it's easy to pick up right where we left off.

The bottom line:
With Webflow, you get a site that looks amazing, works hard behind the scenes, and gives you the tools to stay in control—without the overwhelm. It’s a joy for me to use to build custom projects, and a breeze for you to independently manage your content.

Your Practice Deserves More Than a Template

Choosing the right platform is a big part of building a website that truly supports your business. I choose Webflow because it gives you more freedom, ease, and possibility. Webflow helps us create something custom, professional, and uniquely yours—so that your website fully communicates your practice’s vision and values.

FAQs

Let's dive deeper! The quick facts you're looking for to answer your most pressing questions.

What makes Webflow different from other website platforms like Squarespace or WordPress?

Webflow offers full creative freedom without the need for templates or heavy plugin use. Unlike Squarespace or WordPress, it allows for highly customized designs with no-code functionality, making it perfect for brands that want something truly unique. While Squarespace is marketed as a no-code platform, I've found that full creative customization requires a high degree of custom code.

Do I need to know how to code to manage a Webflow site?

Not at all. While Webflow allows developers to add custom code when needed, most day-to-day edits—like changing text, swapping photos, or adding blog posts—can be done easily in Editor Mode or via the built-in CMS.

Is Webflow a good choice for small businesses or solo practitioners?

Yes! Webflow is ideal for service-based businesses, creatives, and wellness practitioners who want a beautifully branded site that's easy to manage. It scales as you grow and doesn’t require you to hire a developer for every update. However, if selling physical products is your business's number one goal, I would recommend an ecommerce-centric platform, such as Shopify.

How easy is it to update content on a Webflow site after launch?

It’s very easy. With Webflow’s Editor Mode and CMS, you can update content in a simple, intuitive interface—no digging through code or dealing with clunky back ends. Most clients can make edits confidently after a short training, which is included in every custom site build package.

Do you offer custom site builds on other platforms, such as Squarespace or Wix?

I specialize in custom site builds using Webflow, as it gives me the creative flexibility and technical control needed to bring each project to life. While I don’t offer custom builds on platforms like Squarespace or Wix, I do offer 1:1 marketing consulting sessions to help you make the most of whatever platform you're using—whether that’s refining your content, improving layout, or utilizing design principles to drive sales.
